Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers

Arthur Dong contributed the essay “Discovering The Curse of Quon Gwon” to Pioneers: First Women Filmmakers, a six-disc box set from Kino Lorber (2018). The 80-page illustrated booklet accompanying the set features his essay on Marion Wong’s groundbreaking 1917 feature, The Curse of Quon Gwon. The collection celebrates the early decades of cinema, when some of the most innovative and celebrated filmmakers in America were women, with films meticulously restored in 2K and 4K and presented with new musical scores.
