Hollywood Chinese is the first documentary ever to have been selected to open the Golden Horse Film Festival. This unprecedented screening takes place November 23, along with the other opening night film, Tso-Chi Chang’s Butterfly. Filmmaker Arthur Dong will be in attendance.

A special presentation of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival, this is a rare opportunity to see all surviving thirty-five minutes of this landmark Chinese American film recently selected by the Library of Congress for the National Film Registry. Made by Oakland filmmaker Marion Wong in 1916, “Curse” is the earliest known Asian American film. A panel discussion follows with family members of the original cast and local historians.
